Vaccinations still lead cases in Boone County

On Sunday, the Iowa Department of Public Health reported 418 new cases of COVID-19, a decrease of 121 in the last twenty-four hours, but pushing the pandemic total to over 367,000.  Statewide, three deaths were attributed to coronavirus on Saturday, including one in Polk County.  With six additional deaths on Sunday (and two more in Polk County), 5,558 Iowans have succumbed to COVID-19.  Since 8:00 on Friday evening in central Iowa, 180 new cases of coronavirus have been identified in Polk County; 31 in Story; 28 in Dallas; 11 in Webster; just one in Hamilton; none in Greene, and 14 this weekend in Boone County for 2,624 overall.  Only 167 Iowans are hospitalized with coronavirus, down three from Saturday and more than 320,000 have recovered, including 2,298 in Boone County alone, where the seven-day positivity rate has actually gone up a percentage point in the last week to 4%, even though 2,632 residents have now received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
