Iowa Department of Transportation Announces the Beginning of Work on the Highway 17 Overpass Project in Boone County

KWBG 03/10/21

JEFFERSON, Iowa—The Iowa DOT has released a letter detailing work that will begin soon on the Highway 17 overpass project in Boone County:

A project to reconstruct and widen approximately one-half mile of Iowa 17 and construct an overpass over 210th Road and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Boone County will require detouring traffic on Iowa 17 north of 217th Road from 8 a.m. Monday, March 15, until July 2022, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Jefferson construction office.

Continuing north from the overpass, a new roadway will be constructed to connect Iowa 17 to 200th Street and then east to reconnect with Iowa 17 at the existing location.

During this project, traffic will be detoured around the work zone using Iowa 17, 217th Road, 210th Street, and Boone County Road E-41. Permitted oversize loads will be prohibited on this detour route.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
