BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for 78 year old Dr. Douglas C. Gustafson of Boone, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
A private family graveside service will be held at Linwood Park Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Doug’s Life held on Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. at Cedar Pointe Country Club.
Doug was born on January 5, 1943 in Boone, Iowa to Carl and Viola Gustafson. He attended Boone Public Schools and graduated in 1961. He continued his education at Iowa State University and earned his degree in Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1969.
Doug practiced Veterinary Medicine in Boone for 40 years, owning and operating Boone Veterinary Hospital.
On April 6, 1978, Doug married Ann Young Nauman in Boone.
Doug served on many boards and associations, including the Iowa Arboretum, and retired board member of Boone Bank and Trust and Ames National Bank. He was an avid supporter of Iowa State. He enjoyed attending men’s and women’s basketball games as well as volleyball games.
Doug is survived by his wife, Ann; step-son, Doug Nauman (Angela); grand-daughter, Kassandra Ann Nauman (Fiancé, Ty Knowler); two brothers, Steve (Jody) and Mark (Val); and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone or the Iowa Arboretum in Madrid.
