BOONE, Iowa—Kenneth Springer, age 88 of Boone, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021 at his home.

A celebration of life will be held this summer. Inurnment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in rural Boone.

Kenneth Earl Springer was born on July 20, 1932 in Boone, the son of Merrill K. and Mildred (Tolliver) Springer.

Ken was united in marriage to Laura Lundberg on January 21, 1953 in Boone. From this union they had three children, Kevin, Jeff and Kerin. They divorced in 1982.

Ken worked as a plumber, working his way up to Utility Distribution Manager at Iowa State University where he worked for 27 years. He later worked at Van Hauen and Associates for 10 years. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard for 11 years.

Ken loved camping, cooking, trips out west, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He also loved his morning coffee group in his later years.

He was a member of the Central Christian Church in Boone.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents; lifelong companion Laura Springer; son Kevin in 2005; sisters Carol Snider, Helen Hall, and Judy Reed. Also, his precious pets Rusty, Pepper, and Jackie.

He is survived by his son Jeff (Tena) Springer of Winter, WI; daughter Kerin (Mike) Peterson of Boone, IA; grandchildren, Erik Springer of CA, Brandon Peterson and Michelle Peterson, both of Boone; sister, Joyce (Loren) Appenzeller of Boone; and his dog Skipper; along with many loving extended family members, countless friends and caregivers.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.
