BOONE, Iowa—The Boone School District has released information about their search for a new High School Principal.

The application period recently closed for the new Boone High School Principal position. The following desired qualifications were identified as top priorities for the new high school principal:

• Visible in the school and community
• Experience and/or understanding of Standards Referenced Grading (SRG)
• Creates and sustains a safe and collaborative culture among staff and students
• Can support and grow work based learning
• Supports and promotes social and emotional learning (SEL)
• Coaches staff to higher levels of performance
• Conveys a clear vision for Boone High School
• Seeks input on the decision-making process

The candidate pool included 18 total applicants. The pool included 14 male and 4 female candidates. Two candidates were from outside the state of Iowa. Five candidates had two or more years of building leadership experience. After a thorough review of application materials,
references and licensure qualifications, two finalists have been invited to the district on Wednesday, May 26th to formally interview. Those candidates are:

John Lawrence: Mr. Lawrence has served as the Danville Junior-Senior High Principal since 2015. His prior experience includes serving as an Alternative School Principal and West Middle School Principal for Muscatine Schools. He also served the Columbus School and Wilton School
Districts as a Principal from 1998-2006.

Jon Johnson: Mr. Johnson currently serves as the Athletic Director at North High School for the Des Moines School District. His prior experience includes serving DMPS North High School as an at-risk coordinator. His teaching experience includes teaching 7-8th grade language arts and reading.

The district hopes to name a new high school principal soon after the formal interviews. The successful candidate will formally begin their duties on July 1, 2021.
