Robert “Bob” Brown, 84, of Boone, Iowa

BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for 84 year old Robert “Bob” Brown of Boone. He passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, June 25, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Robert Forrest Brown was born on May 2, 1937 in Iowa City, the son of Forrest and Dorothy (Gleason) Brown. He graduated from Boone High School in 1957. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for 4 years.

Bob was united in marriage with Ione May (Eckley) Sturtz on April 4, 1978 in Spartensburg, SC.

Bob worked temporarily for Hallet Construction and then began his career with Chicago Northwestern and later the Union Pacific Railroad. He began working there in 1963 following his return from the service, retiring in 2012 as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way.

Bob was also a member of Hunt and Fish Club and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. He would frequently camp and fish at Don Williams and enjoyed volunteering at the Scenic Valley Railroad. He loved his Iowa Hawkeyes, listening to country western music or reading a good western book. Bob and Ione desired to get out of Iowa in the cold winter months following retirement, they wintered in Texas for 8 years.

Bob was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone. He was a man of faith, setting aside his time each morning to read from the Bible and his prayer books.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Laurie Walkenhorst

in 2017; and his Schnauzer, Jacko. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ione of Boone; children, Mike Brown of Boone, Larry Sturtz of LeGrand, Robin Scarcello of Arcadia, WI; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; sister, Karen Smith of Boone; and his four-legged buddy, Floyd, his yorkie.
