Bonnie Lorrie Cox was born on May 18, 1946 in Boone to Arnold and Margaret (Short) Fuller. She graduated from Boone High School in 1964. While in high school, Bonnie’s neighbor introduced her to a young man named Curtis Dale Cox Jr. at a Friday night football game and that is where it all began. On March 27, 1965, Bonnie and Curtis Dale were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Boone. From this union were two children, Doug and Sarah.
Bonnie and Curtis Dale have made it through many challenges in their 56 years of marriage. She was diagnosed with breast cancer almost 8 years ago, battling with a positive attitude and friendly smiling face through it all. After being run down from chemo or radiation, she would bounce right back! She was never afraid to pass away instead she showed strength through each phase of her treatments.
Bonnie worked as an activity director at Ogden Manor for 21 years and at the Madrid Home for 2 years, before retiring in 2009. She had a heart of gold and made friends everywhere she went. Bonnie’s family was number one in her life, cherishing time with her grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Bonnie was musically talented. She played the accordion in the Old Timers Band for nearly 10 years. The Old Timers Band used to travel around the state to play at community centers and nursing homes. She also loved to crochet (especially animals), cook and shop with her daughter, Sarah.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edward; and sister, Mary Lou. She is survived by her husband, Curtis Dale Jr. of Boone; son, Doug Cox of Boone; daughter, Sarah Costa of Des Moines; grandchildren, Noah and Kasey Costa and Chase Webb; nieces and nephews; and her cat, Mamie Eisenmeower.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Bonnie’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Bonnie Cox Family.
