BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are planned for 75 year old Connie Jean Sprecher of Boone, Iowa. She passed away at Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Connie was born on February 3, 1946 in Boone, the daughter of Ray and Ruth (Van Pelt) Johnson. She graduated from Boone High School in 1964.
In June of 1964 she married Richard “Dick” Wullenwaber. To this union was born two daughters, Teresa Rene and Paula Sue, the couple later divorced. On July 7, 1984 Connie married Milton Sprecher at the Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden, Iowa. Joining the families together brought two sons, Larry and Michael Sprecher.
Connie’s early days were spent raising two daughters. She then worked as a teacher’s aide in the Perry Schools. She also worked in dietary at the Evangelical Free Church Home, Boone County Hospital, Iowa State University, and Eastern Star Masonic Home. She worked at Walmart in Ames before retiring early and volunteering at the Church.
Connie was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, where she was involved with the Women’s Circle and quilting. She enjoyed sewing, reading, baking and loved learning about history, especially WWII. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren. Connie loved family gatherings, especially family reunions. She also had a special place in her heart for her cats Mollie and Sophie.
Connie and Milton enjoyed retirement together, traveling around Iowa visiting various restaurants. They also cherished their Sunday drives that always ended with an ice cream cone.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents Ray and Ruth Johnson; infant brother Russell; brother Jim, and sisters Trena and Leota.
She is survived by her husband Milton; daughters Teresa Wullenwaber and Paula (Paul) Brekke; stepsons Larry Sprecher and Mike (Sara) Sprecher; grandchildren: Justin Miller; Nicole Miller (Austin Larson); Marie Miller; Gillian Sprecher; Harrison Sprecher; Beckett Sprecher; Wyatt Sprecher; Jacelyn Sprecher, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 9, 2021 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street, Boone, IA 50036. Funeral Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home with Pastor Matthew Martens officiating. Burial will take place at Squire Boone Cemetery following the service.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the incredible care Connie received at Eastern Star Masonic Home and Suncrest Hospice Care. These amazing angels on earth cared for Connie with heartfelt compassion, love, kindness, and respect. We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to these truly amazing individuals.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Augustana Lutheran Church or the Boone Area Humane Society.
