Ernie Ronald Jordan was born to Ronald “Dick” and Nellie (Lange) Jordan in Ames, IA on March 12, 1939. He graduated from Huxley High School in the Class of 1957.
Ernie was united in marriage with Gladys “Gaye” Marie Stewart on July 1, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Nevada. From this union were two children, Tammi and Todd.
Ernie worked in Nevada at a print shop for many years, along with farming with his family, up until his retirement. Even after retirement, Ernie enjoyed keeping up a large garden as he gave most of the produce away. He was a giving person. Ernie would haul the yield from his personal garden around the Boone and Ames area to gift to family, friends and neighbors; always grinning ear to ear when he delivered.
In Ernie’s younger years, his favorite thing to do was jump in his #65 hobby stock or stock car and race at various dirt tracks around Iowa, especially at the Boone Speedway! He also had a passion for fishing.
Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Thomas Jordan. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gladys “Gaye” of Boone; daughter, Tammi (Pete) Miller of Orange, MA; son, Todd (Teresa) Jordan of Mooresville, NC; grandchildren, Josh (Dawn) Hanson of Ames and MacKenzie Jordan of NC; great-granddaughter, Emma Olson of TX; sister, Marilyn Baldus of Ames; along with many other family members and friends.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Ernie’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Ernie Jordan Family for later designation to help others as Ernie would have wanted.
