BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for 94 year old Alice Shannon of Boone, Iowa and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, Boone, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home with her family by her side.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Please wear a hat in honor of Alice, as she loved dressing up and wearing one of her many hats. Burial will be held at a later date in Grove Chapel Cemetery in Kent, Iowa.
Alice Darlene (Oshel) Shannon was the 7th of 10 children of John Henry and Elsie Mae (Everling) Oshel born on April 24, 1927 in Diagonal, Iowa. She graduated from Arispe High School, now known as East Union, in the Class of 1945.
Alice was united in marriage with James Daniel Shannon on November 26, 1946 in Atchison, Kansas. The following year, they began their family. Alice was a farm wife to JD, mother to 7 children and worked various jobs through the years.
Alice was a stay-at-home mother at a point in time, later she worked as a CNA at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mt. Ayr for nearly 20 years and also at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone. She retired in 1988.
Alice was active in TOPS at the local Boone chapter. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking which she was excellent at! She made beautiful Afghans and embroidery work in her younger years. In later years, Alice was thrilled to babysit her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2017; grandson, Jason Shannon; and son-in-law, John McGovern. She is survived by her children, Janet McGovern of Ankeny, Jill (Fred) Willrich of Des Moines, John (Linda) Shannon of Coal Hill, AR, James “Jim” (Sheri) Shannon of Shannon City, Julie (Tim) Dannen of Boone, Jean (Joe) Brooks of Ogden and Jay (Peggy) Shannon of Oak Harbor, WA; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous great-great grandchildren; sister, Norma Butcher of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Irvel Oshel of Osceola; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
