Larry A. Schroeder

BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for Larry A. Schroeder, age 67 of Boone, Iowa.  He died peacefully at his home after a sudden illness Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of the Sacred Heart with Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Larry Allen Schroeder, was born in Boone, Iowa on September 30, 1953, the son of Richard “Sonny” and Wanda (Nelson) Schroeder.

He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School until it closed his sophomore year of high school. Larry graduated from Boone High in 1972 and continued his education at Des Moines Area Community College (Boone campus) where he earned his Associates Degree. He then enrolled in the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science program in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated in 1975 as the Salutatorian of his class. Larry returned to Boone to work alongside his Dad, Sonny, at Schroeder Funeral Home at 5th and Story Streets. In 1986, Larry opened up the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at 6th and Marshall Streets. He married Darcy Pervier on June 21, 1975 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone and to this union a son, Timothy Allen Schroeder was born. Larry dedicated 46 years to serving the families of Boone County.

Larry was a member of the Boone Jaycee’s, Ducks Unlimited, Elks Club, Iowa Funeral Director Association, Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Daybreakers, National Wild Turkey Federation and Pheasants Forever.

Larry enjoyed his annual trip to trout fish the beautiful streams of northeast Iowa, trips to Kansas Speedway with his family, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan but enjoyed following Iowa State as well. His true love was raising his boxers, Sandy and Kasey. Larry was a foodie, from experimenting with new recipes to visiting restaurants. He also enjoyed hunting and taking care of his acreage.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and stillborn brother and sister.

He is survived by Darcy; son, Tim and wife Audra of Huxley; grandchildren, Laurel and Logan Schroeder; sister, Martha (Jim) Bradbury of Iowa City, twin sister, Mary (Karl) Peterson of Des Moines; brothers, Paul (Deb) Schroeder of Boone, Carl (Sherri Larsen) Schroeder of Boone; many nieces and nephews and dog, Luna.

Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets on Monday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with a Vigil Service beginning at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart Cemetery Association or Unity Point Hospice.

The Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall is in charge of the arrangements.

As a precaution against the Delta variant of COVID-19, the family recommends and appreciates all in attendance to wear a mask.
