BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have now been set for 83 year old Joann McHugh of Boone, Iowa. Joann died April 4, 2020 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home.
Services were postponed from an earlier date. Memorial Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, September 10, 2021 at the Church of the Sacred Heart, with burial to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone.
Beatrice Joann McHugh, was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 9, 1936, the daughter of James and Mary Beatrice (Lyons) McHugh.
She graduated from Stanhope High School in Stanhope, Iowa in 1955.
Joann worked as a cook and housekeeper at the former, Boone County Care Facility and the former, River Valley Residential. She retired in 1997.
Joann was like a second mother to her nieces and nephews. She also was very active with RSVP of Boone, working wherever she was needed but especially enjoyed working with children or as a companion to families with a loved one with Alzheimer’s.
Joann enjoyed gardening, playing Bingo, making cats in ceramics, and working as a Communion Minister for her church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Bob McNace; nephew, Thomas McNace.
Joann is survived by her sister, RoseMary McNace and brother, James McHugh,Jr., both of Boone; nephews, John (Cheryl) McNace and Michael McNace and his special friend Pati Bartholomew both of Boone, Michael (Lori) McHugh of Louisville, Texas, and Jamie (Monica) McHugh of Zwingle, Iowa; nieces, Mary (Dick) Youngblood and Ann (Vern) Wright, both of Boone; many grandnieces and grandnephews.
