BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are set for Richard “Doug” Douglas Elliott, age 51 of Boone, Iowa. He passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Doug was born on April 28, 1970 in Marshalltown, IA, the son of Richard and Beverly (Risdal) Elliott. He spent his childhood growing up in McCallsburg. In high school, he was in band and music has been “his thing” since.
Doug was a drummer and lit up when he was able to teach friends and family members how to play. He taught his son, Justin and later had the privilege to play alongside him in the Justin Elliott Band for a few years. Doug loved all music but especially country music.
Doug’s family was most important in his life, teaching the drums was just the beginning of fun! He loved road trips with the family although he may not have a planned destination and often ended up at Bass Pro. He also enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley. Doug lived life to the fullest and did so with a grin on his face.
Doug worked at Spring Green in Boone for 21 years, until November 2020 when he had to leave due to health complications.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Richard “Dick” Elliott; mother, Beverly Alitz; and niece, Heather Lutt. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda of Boone; step-father, George Alitz of McCallsburg; children, Brittany (Brandon) Shuey of Loveland, CO, Stephen (Amelia) Wildt, Erica Wildt, Justin Elliott (Fiancé, Becca Reutter) and Nikki Elliott (Aaron Ely), all of Boone; nine treasured grandchildren; brother, Butch (Mary) Elliott of Boone; sisters, Lori (Rex) Gross of Madrid, Jeanne (Dan) Vellinga of Marshalltown, Kim (Kevin) Jacobson of McCallsburg and Lisa Griffith of Dallas, GA; along with many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Doug’s Life at his sister Lori’s Home in Madrid.
