BOONE, Iowa—The Friends of the Ledges have been spreading the word about the Ledges Monarch Festival that will be held Saturday morning from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The Monarch Festival is an FFA project by Halle Heyer, a Boone High School sophomore and is her SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) according to Boone A&M FFA Advisor James Fitzgerald.
Heyer is a second year member of the Boone A&M FFA Chapter. She has previously done similar projects in 4H to provide pollinator habitat. The Saturday event is free and is family friendly. Those attending can gather in the upper picnic area at the Ledges State Park. Part of the activity will include a chance to hike, see butterflies and more. Those that take part will get to help collect prairie seed that will be used to help enhance pollinator plots elsewhere.
