Fareway Raises $163,000 for MDA

KWBG 10/11/21

DES MOINES, Iowa—Fareway Stores, Inc. partnered once again with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) to host the 11th Annual Fareway MDA Golf Classic at Beaver Creek Golf Club in Grimes. The event raised over $163,000 for the MDA. Funds raised at this event will support research and provide health care services for more than 1,700 MDA families across the state of Iowa.

“We are proud to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association through this annual event that’s raised more than $1 million over the last eleven years,” said Reynolds W. Cramer, Fareway CEO. “We want to thank our generous partners, who continue to support us in our efforts to further MDA’s life-saving mission.”

Sixty vendor partners provided sponsorships and teams, making it a full tournament once again. For the eleventh year in a row, the event was presented by 7UP; other top sponsors included American Foods Group, Cylinder Express, EJ Gallo Winery, Greater Omaha, PepsiCo, Prairie Farms Dairy, Sanderson Farms, Sazerac, Shullsburg Creamery, TransAmerica, Tyson, Webster City Custom Meats, and Wells Fargo Advisors.

“The funds raised at this event are crucial to local families and helps fund ground-breaking research, a state-of-the-art Care Center at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and helps send kids to MDA Summer Camp, which has continued virtually throughout the pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has continued to impact fundraising events across the country this year. Despite the challenges though, Fareway and their vendor partners persevered to put on a safe and successful golf outing to raise desperately needed funds, and we are incredibly
appreciative” said MDA National Manager, Jillian Harper.

In 2021 Fareway employees, customers and vendors raised over $405,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through various fundraising efforts including, the golf event.
