ANKENY, Iowa—Six DMACC students, one from each of the College’s six campuses, have received a $1,000 cash prize, by entering a contest and proving they received a COVID-19 vaccination.

To encourage the DMACC community to get vaccinated against COVID-19, DMACC Announced a Fall Semester Vaccination Incentive for Students.

“This incentive to get vaccinated was launched to help protect our students from contracting COVID and will have the added benefit of making our campuses and classrooms safer environments,” said DMACC President Rob Denson.  “This drawing served as a motivation for students to do the right thing and get a vaccination.”

Currently, it’s estimated that 75 percent of faculty and staff are fully or partially vaccinated.  The numbers and percentages of DMACC students who are vaccinated is not known.

All DMACC students enrolled in at least one credit course during the fall semester, were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Sept. 30th, 2021 and were able to show proof of vaccination, were then entered into the contest. A total of six DMACC students, one from each of the DMACC Campuses, were randomly selected to receive a $1,000 cash prize. The prize was funded by the federal American Rescue Plan’s Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund.

More than 2,000 DMACC students college-wide entered the contest.

            The winners include:

·         Hannah Mueller, Ankeny Campus

·         Bailey Donohoe, Boone Campus

·         Paige Wollesen, Carroll Campus

·         Delaney Dalton, Newton Campus

·         Gabrielle Bearden, Urban Campus

·         Ashley Carter, West Des Moines Campus

DMACC is not requiring masks or vaccinations, but is strongly recommending them.

“This incentive to get vaccinated was undertaken to help make our campuses and classrooms to be safe environments for our students and faculty,” DMACC President Rob Denson said.  “This drawing served as a motivation for students to do the right thing and get a vaccination.”
