BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for 90 year old Catherine “Kate” Arlene (Jordan) Huffman of Boone, Iowa. She died on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the Westhaven Community in Boone, Iowa.
Kate was born the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Wirth) Jordan on July 19, 1931 in rural Boone County. She attended Harrison No. 6 one room school house in rural Boone County for elementary school, then attended Jordan High School, where she played basketball. She graduated in 1949. Following high school, she was employed by Farm Bureau in Boone.
On June 12, 1952, Kate was united in marriage with Arvid E. Huffman at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, northwest of Gilbert. Kate joined Arvid at San Diego Naval Base in 1952, where she began working for the U.S. Naval Station until returning to Boone in 1954. Kate was a stay-at-home mother for her six children.
Kate was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Boone. She was a member of the Altar Society and served on the funeral committee for 20 plus years. Kate also enjoyed sewing, reading, crosswords, baking (especially cherry pies from her own cherry tree), Cubs Baseball and Iowa Basketball.
Kate was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arvid in 2016; son-in-law, Collin Buckingham; daughter-in-law, Elise Huffman; granddaughter, Margo Huffman; brother, Vince Jordan; and sisters, Marie Uthe and Rita Jordan.
Kate is survived by her sons, Charles “Chuck” (Mary) Huffman, Brian (Tracy) Huffman and David Huffman, all of Boone; daughters, Deborah Furstenau of Des Moines, Dorene Buckingham and Denise Walters, both of Boone; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Family of Kate Huffman for later designation.
