DES MOINES, Iowa—The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is responsible for releasing the weekly fuel report and once again this week, regular unleaded gasoline prices in Iowa were down 2 cents, averaging $3.05 across Iowa.

Crude Oil Summary

• The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $2.31 per barrel over last week, currently priced at $69.63.
• Brent crude oil fell $2.64 and currently priced at $72.71.
• One year ago, WTI crude sold for $46.99 and Brent crude was at $50.77.

Motor Fuels

• As of Wednesday, December 15, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.05 across Iowa according to AAA.
  • Prices fell 2 cents from last week’s price and 97 cents higher than one year ago.
  • The national average on Wednesday was $3.32, down 2 cents from last week’s price.
• Retail diesel prices in Iowa were down 2 cents this week with a statewide average of $3.34.
  • One year ago, diesel prices averaged $2.35 in Iowa.
  • The current Iowa diesel price is 25 cents less than the national average of $3.59.
• Wholesale ethanol fell held steady and is currently priced at $2.14.
• The current Des Moines Terminal/Rack Prices are $2.13 for U87-E10, $2.17 for Unleaded 87 (clear), $2.27 for ULSD#2, $2.52 for ULSD#1, and $2.84 per gallon for E-70 prices.

Heating Fuels

• Propane prices held steady with a statewide average of $1.89 per gallon.
• Home heating oil prices rose 9 cents, with a statewide average of $2.81 per gallon.
• Natural gas prices rose 3 cents at the Henry Hub reporting site and are currently priced at $3.89/MMbtu.
