BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for Patrick Eugene “Gene” Pepper, age 87, of the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa. He passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021.
Gene was born on June 22, 1934. He and his twin sister, Jane, were the 11th and 12th children (out of 13) of Ray and Ethel (McGlynn) Pepper. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1952 and served in the National Guard.
Gene was united in marriage with Margaret Carpenter in 1958. They had 2 children, Dave and Katie. Margaret died in 1987 and Gene later was united in marriage with Janiet Platter Carman in 1993; she passed in 2017.
Gene is survived by his children and their families: son, Dave and his wife Mary Pepper of rural Boone and grandsons, Tom and Jim, both of Ames; daughter, Katie and her husband Al Kole of Ames; step-daughter, Terrie and her husband Rich Hadaway and family; 2 siblings, Joan Kerrigan of West Covina, CA and Bill Pepper of Westhaven Community in Boone; along with a large number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. on Monday, January 3, 2021 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone, with a Vigil Service beginning at 6:00 P.M. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2021 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in rural Ames. Burial will be in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the Eastern Star Masonic Home of Boone for the wonderful care they provided to Gene and Jim and Sandy Andersen for all their friendship and support of Gene in his final years.
