Judy Moore

KWBG 01/30/22

BOONE, Iowa—Judy Ann Moore was born on July 12, 1941, in Harvey, Iowa, and passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at her home in Boone.

Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets, Boone, on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. A Memorial Service will be held 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dan Solomon officiating.

Judy was the daughter of Floyd and Ruth (Geery) Milledge, and the sister of Norman, Larry, and Susan. She graduated from Tracy High School, Tracy, Iowa, in 1959. Judy was a talented basketball player for Tracy, and liked to think of herself as the most athletic “Milledge,” not to be overshadowed by her also athletic older brothers.

While at home, Judy helped operate her family’s in home telephone switchboard, and in 1959, she would take a job with Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator in Des Moines. Thus, began her long and highly respected career as a pioneer in the telephone industry. Judy would go on to work for various phone companies in several cities throughout Iowa, later landing in Boone, as a regional manager. Judy retired from US West in 1990, after 31 years in the telephone industry. She would go on to work for the Boone Community School District, and the Iowa High School Athletic Association, before once again retiring in 2003, to spend time with her family.

In 1973, Judy was married to John Moore, and to this union one daughter, Jonna Lynn was born. Jonna would be the true love of Judy’s life, until on Judy’s birthday in 2004, she received the best birthday present imaginable, her twin granddaughters, Avery and Anna Sondall. They would be Judy’s pride and joy, and she, their biggest supporter ever.

Judy had a love of flowers and gardening, she enjoyed reading, cooking and trying new recipes, and shopping with her girls. She was also a true Iowa Hawkeye fan. Judy cherished her family, Sunday dinners in Tracy, and time spent fondly recalling the memories of her childhood in both Harvey and Tracy.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Jonna Sondall and Fiancé Stan Vetterick; granddaughters, Avery and Anna Sondall; stepson, Jeff (Angie) Moore; stepdaughter, Cinda (Troy) Halverson; brother, Larry (Olive) Milledge; sister, Susan Stone; sister-in-law, Mary Milledge; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Ruth; stepson, Jaye Moore; brother, Norman Milledge; and brother-in-law, Ray Stone.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Judy’s family at www.schroedermemorial.com
