AMES, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are set for Patricia (Patty) Rae Dakin, age 75, of Ames, Iowa. She passed away at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa, on Friday, February 4, 2022. Although she endured many health-related issues throughout her life, she succumbed to a Covid-19 breakthrough infection despite being fully vaccinated. She resided at Bethany Life Care Center in Story City, Iowa, prior to being admitted to the ICCU at Mary Greeley.

Patricia was born on March 29, 1946 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls, Iowa, to Clarence and Muriel (Abbas) Muessigmann of Geneva, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Grant Center Lutheran Church in rural Iowa Falls, Iowa. She attended country school through 8th grade in rural Franklin County and graduated from Ackley-Geneva High School in 1964. Following graduation, she moved to Ames, where she lived the remainder of her life. She attended cosmetology school, worked at Mary Greeley Hospital, Homeward Health, and lovingly provided daycare services to children from her home.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing cards and BINGO, making homemade dolls, gabbing with friends over coffee, collecting key chains, and attending her sons’ athletic events. Two special highlights in her life included a trip to Hawaii and being a grandmother to triplet granddaughters.

On October 6, 1969, she married Jerry Dakin. To this union, three sons were born: Brent, Trenton, and Travis Dakin. They later divorced but remarried on May 17, 1987, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Muriel (Abbas) Muessigmann, and her son Trenton Dakin.

Her survivors include husband, Jerry Dakin of Ames, Iowa; sons Brent of Madison, Wisconsin, and Travis (Becky) Dakin of Stratford, Iowa; grandchildren: Olivia, Sophia, and Avery Dakin, of Madison, Wisconsin; Ben McDaniel, and Carlos Dakin of Stratford, Iowa; two sisters, Pam (Steve) Harkema of Hampton, Iowa, and Penney (Brent) Wilson of Ankeny, Iowa; additional family members include Craig (Heather) Harkema and Alexis of Hampton, Iowa; Chad (Jamie) Harkema and Easton and Oakley of Mason City, Iowa; Chloe (Kian) Wilson-Khanjani of Chicago, Illinois; Quinn Wilson of Boston, Massachusetts, and Eli Wilson, studying in Sweden.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa Donor Network.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home. Patty will be laid to rest next to her son Trenton Lee at Boone Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
