Alma Howard

KWBG 03/01/22

BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are planned for Alma Lenore Howard, age 95, of Boone, Iowa. She passed away Saturday, February 26. She had been a resident at Eastern Star since 2018. Alma was born on June 19, 1926 in Benton, IL to George and Phyllis Rodenbusch. She graduated high school in 1944, and then in 1945, she graduated from Gregg College with an executive secretarial diploma. She was united in marriage to Cecil (Ted) Howard at the Chicago Temple on September 15, 1946. Her greatest joy was their 53 years of marriage and the love that endured until she was reunited with him.

The couple moved to Boone where Ted started his practice as a podiatrist. They welcomed children Susan (1949) and Michael (1952). Alma spent several years at home with her children, and several years working as Ted’s assistant in the clinic. She was very active in the community, helping found the Boone County Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteering in various organizations, including those that serve people with special needs, in the schools, and as a Rotary Ann. She loved quilting, painting, playing bridge, and spending time with family and friends. Everyone was welcome at her table.

Alma was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years. She also spent time worshiping at the Presbyterian Church and Grace Community Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Harold Rodenbusch, her husband Dr. Ted Howard, her son Mike Howard, several well-loved dogs, and many dear friends.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bob Herrick of Boone; grandchildren: John and Jennifer Howard (Johnston, IA); Kelly Howard (Los Angeles, CA); Jim Mowrer (Clive, IA); Ruth Ann and Joe Pometto (Marshall, WI); Lorraine Herrick (Boone, IA), and David Herrick (Boone, IA). She also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Jacob, Avalon, Carter, Jack, Roman, Judah, Silas, and Nora; sister-in-law Pat Rodenbusch and multiple nieces and nephews.

There will be a private family service held later this year. The family is thankful for your prayers and your sweet thoughts.

Online condolences can be left at www.schroederfuneral.com

The Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street, Boone is assisting the family with the arrangements.
