BOONE, Iowa—Margaret R. “Butch” (Lakin) Blank Uthe, age 98 of Boone, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022 at the Boone County Hospital.
Margaret was born on August 6, 1923 in Webster City, adopted by Ben and Nelda (Roushia) Lakin and lived in Clay County. She graduated from Lake Center School in 1941. She lived at home on the farm until she married Alvin “Joe” Blank on November 21, 1945. They lived around Britt, Kanawha and Boone. The parents of three children, Roger, Darrell and Shirley.
Butch worked as a bartender at Kanawha and after moving to Boone, she attended bar for O’Brien’s, 12 Bells, V.F.W. and Wilson’s Tap.
On August 8, 1987, Butch was united in marriage with Joseph A. Uthe. They raised a large garden and did a lot of canning. For several years they spent part of the winter in Arizona visiting Darrell “her son” and family. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards, and was active at the V.F.W. She was president of the V.F.W. Auxiliary for 10 years and Treasurer for 15 years. Butch was a member of the V.F.W. for 67 years and also a member at Sacred Heart Church in Boone.
Butch was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Alvin “Joe” Blank in 1966 and Joe Uthe in 2011; granddaughter, Terri Jones; and brother, Lloyd Lakin.
She is survived by her children, Roger (Cindy) Blank of Boone and Shirley Davisson of Bouton; grandchildren, Darrell Davisson, Patty Blank, Becky (Chuck) Oberfield, Lisa (Jason) Ward and Joey (Britta) Blank; 11 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery.
