Thomas Zenor

BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for Thomas Richard Zenor, son of Joseph Raynard and Pearl Mae (Baker) Zenor, was born March 30, 1933 at their home in Boone County, Iowa. Tom died at his home in Boone, Iowa on April 21, 2022 at the age of 89 years.

Tom was raised in the family farm near Gilbert, Iowa and attended Zenorsville and Gilbert Schools. He was the eighth of nine children. He was baptized at the Zenorsville Evangelical UB Church. After high school he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1953.

On July 16, 1960, Tom was united in marriage to Joanne Rye in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were the proud parents of three children: Mark (August 6, 1961), Trudy (February 5, 1963), and Teri (January 7, 1964). In 1962, the family moved to Boone, Iowa. Tom managed the Phillips Service Station. He later went to work for Peoples Clothing and then the Boone Community Schools for twelve years before retiring in 1993.

Tom enjoyed gardening, golf, traveling, NASCAR, Sunday drives, and tinkering with cars. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters: Mildred (Jack) Pentico, Dorothy (Howard) Wisecup, and Bessie (Wayne) Peterson: 4 brothers: Marvin (Barb) Zenor, Lloyd (Florence) Zenor, Harold (Ruth) Zenor, and Robert (Anne) Zenor. He is survived by his wife Joanne; 3 children: Mark (Priscilla) Zenor, Trudy (Brad) Appenzeller, and Teri (Wayne) McCabe;10 grandchildren: Ashley (JT) Mitchell, Jacob Zenor, Jordan (Carrie) Zenor, Noah Zenor, Kasie (Dan) Beck, Logan (Miranda) Erb, Dylan Appenzeller, Evan Appenzeller, Nicole Wright, and Alyssa McCabe; 10 great grandchildren; 1 brother Billy (Irma) Zenor; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Augustana Lutheran Church, 309 South Greene Street, Boone, Iowa with Reverend Dan Solomon officiating. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Augustana Lutheran Church prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date at Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
