BOONE, Iowa—A full slate of eight community bands from across Iowa will perform at the 30th annual Iowa Municipal Band Festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Herman Park Pavilion in Boone.
The Boone Municipal Band will premiere “Fantasy Variations” by Jeff Prater, professor of music at Iowa State University, during its concert at 6 p.m. The piece was commissioned for the 30th Iowa Municipal Band Festival by its committee and is dedicated to both the memory of Dalene O’Brien, former chairperson of the Iowa Municipal Band Festival who passed away in 2020, and to the courageous people of Ukraine.
The Iowa Municipal Band Festival is a free event hosted by the Boone Municipal Band. Bring a lawn chair or use the bleacher seating or picnic tables and hear a great line-up of community bands. The Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will man the food court where sandwiches, pies, ice cream and drinks will be on sale.
