Robert Johnson

KWBG 06/09/22

BOONE, Iowa—Robert (Bob) Johnson, 81, of Boone, Iowa passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 4, 2022.  He was born on December 11, 1940 in Boone, Iowa the son of Bruce and Alma Johnson.  Bob graduated from United Community School in 1959 and Iowa State University in 1963.  After graduation he served in the Iowa National Guard and began farming with his father. On April 18, 1964 he married the love of his life Janet (Jan) Andrews and they raised a family of 3 boys.

He lived in his farmhouse near Jordan for 55 years where he enjoyed raising crops, livestock, and haggling on equipment before retiring and moving to Boone.  He was an avid ISU and Chicago Cubs fan but what he loved most was watching his sons play sports.  He was proud that he never missed any of their sporting events and continued this tradition with his grandchildren’s activities.

In his younger days he enjoyed playing basketball and softball followed later in life by playing golf, doing word search puzzles, computer solitaire and reading jokes shared by others.  He enjoyed time spent with family and friends and was known to joke, say what he thought, and pour a stiff drink.   He always had a twinkle in his eye that made you wonder.

During his retirement he found enjoyment in traveling with friends to places such as Europe, Mexico, Alaska, and Orange Beach, Alabama, to name a few, while his favorite destination was family vacations to Osage Beach, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by parents Bruce and Alma Johnson, in-laws E.E. and Leola Andrews, his sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Dean King, brothers-in-law Leonard Jansa, Jim Hunt, and Tom Pietz.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Jan, sons Mark (Natalie) Johnson of Story City, Jeff (Kim) Johnson of Boone, Nick (Whitney) Johnson of Boone, grandchildren Samantha (Jonathan) Meyer, Evan Johnson, Jacob Johnson and Trinitee Johnson,  sister Greta Jansa of Burnsville, MN, brother Don (Ruth) Johnson of Runnells, sister-in-law Jane (Bob) Hedden of Green Valley, AZ, sister-in-law Judy Hunt (Don Knudson) of Hot Springs Village, AR, brother-in-law John (Judy) Andrews of Grand Junction, CO, sister-in-law Vicki Andrews-Pietz of Boone along with many nieces and nephews.

A private family burial will be held at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.  A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Friday June 24, 2022 from 4 to 7pm at the Central Iowa Expo Administration building on the Farm Progress grounds, 1827 217th Street, Boone, IA.  In lieu of flowers, as Bob was a life-long member of Augustana Lutheran Church, memorials can be made out to Augustana or to the family to be used at their discretion.

Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone is assisting the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.schroederfuneral.com.
