BOONE, Iowa—Joseph “Joey” Terrell Highland, age 38 of Boone, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at his home.

Joey was born on April 14, 1984 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, the son of Thor Olaf and Beth (Franklin) Highland. He attended Boone High School and DMACC for several trade classes to widen his knowledge.

On April 26, 2008, Joey was united in marriage with Jenny Sievers. From this union was one son, Fisher. The couple later divorced.

Joey worked at Marsden Building Maintenance in Des Moines until he was no longer able to work due to health conditions. He started having vision issues in 2008 when he was diagnosed with NF2 Tumors. Then he since won many battles even though he lost the war. Joey was a part of Team Never Quit (a motto of Joey’s). He sent out a Facebook post asking about ice fishing and people from all over came out of the woodworks trying to help him, becoming Team Never Quit. The team has helped him get a tracts chair so he could go fishing and raised money to help with medical expenses. Fishing was Joey’s life outside his family. When he was able, he did woodworking and made his mom several beautiful birdhouses.

In July of 2015, Joey met Tina Reedy the love of his life. Joey would not call himself a step father but a father that stepped up for the kids. They blended two families to become one. He was her king and she was his queen.

Joey was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; father, Thor in 2016; brother, Matthew in 1983; uncles, Joe Lee Franklin and Charley Highland; and black lab Lucy.

He is survived by his mother, Beth Highland of Boone; wife, Tina Reedy of Boone; children, Fisher Highland, Xander Reedy and Lettie Hayes, all at home; his dog, Mia; along with aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. A Time of Sharing will be held at 6:30 P.M.
