BOONE, Iowa—Ronald “Ron” Eugene Glynn, 66, of Boone, Iowa, passed away surrounded by his family at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday, July 30, 2022.
Ron was born on June 8, 1956, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Gene and Bonnie (Conley) Glynn of Moorland, Iowa. Ron attended school at Prairie Community High School in Gowrie, Iowa. On August 2, 1975, he married his high school sweetheart, Claudine Urban, at First Evangelical Free Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Ron was an AWANA State Director for the past 28 years, dedicating his life to serving the Lord through Awana, reaching one more boy or girl for Christ. He worked at Hy-Vee grocery store for 40-plus years, starting in Fort Dodge, later transferring to Ames, Iowa, being a very respected produce manager and employee. Ron also worked at the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. He was a very dedicated and loving husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather to 10 children.
Ron’s love and commitment to his family never wavered. He rarely missed a band or choir concert, dance recital, or sporting event. His kids and grandkids always knew when he was in attendance as he not so quietly cheered them on and gave them advice – like telling his daughter or granddaughter when the batter was going to bunt.
While Ron’s love for his family was never-ending, his greatest love was God. Through his service with AWANA, Ron was able to reach thousands of kids with the word of God in Iowa and around the world. He traveled around the state of Iowa to support local AWANA programs, and as a Missionary, he brought the Bible to places like Africa, China, Europe, and the Philippines. He was also a very active volunteer at Boone E-Free Church, serving as an Elder.
Ron will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we can all rejoice knowing he is now singing with the angels in heaven. His love will be carried on through the lives he touched and the memories and stories we share. Well done good and faithful servant.
Ron is survived by his wife of 46 years, Claudine; daughters: Melissa (Wesley) Vanderway and their children Moses and Isaac of Bellevue, NE; Emily (Dan) Leslie and their children Taylor, Gavin, and Brendan of Perry, IA; Katie (Brian) Robbins and their children Zack, Mackenzi, Alexis, Alexander and Chloee of Council Bluffs, IA; Brothers Pat Glynn and Terry (Sally) Glynn; Sisters: Becky (Steve) Osborn, Nancy Moorman, and Diane (Jason) McGriff; Mother-in-law Betty Schneider, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents Gene and Bonnie Glynn, Father-in-law Jim Schneider, and sister-in-law Teresa Glynn.
