Clarice Ethel “Peggy” Johnson

KWBG 08/29/22

BOONE, Iowa—Clarice Ethel Johnson, a.k.a. Peggy, was born to Clarence Mowery and Myrtle (Jose) Mowery on August 11, 1937, in Shannon City, Iowa. Clarice was the youngest of six children, two sisters, and three brothers. On April 24, 1953, Peggy married Guy F. Johnson “Junior” the love of her life for 65 years. They had five children together. Peggy worked at Oshkosh Tannery in Boone County, Iowa, and also served many years working at Ledges Manor Nursing Home as a CNA. Upon retiring, Peggy spent lots of time with her family, including her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Peggy’s favorite show to watch on Saturday nights was the Daniel O’Donnell show made up of comedy skis and music. Peggy also enjoyed watching the Game Show Network a lot.

Peggy adored Christmas time. She would always decorate the house from the floor to the tip of the tree. She would go above and beyond to make goodies and have the house smell absolutely delightful. If you ask her family, she was most famous for her Sugar Cookies.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Junior; parents, Clarence and Myrtle Mowery and siblings: Hazel, Minerva, Bob, Harvey, and Louis.

Peggy is survived by her children: Randy (Bronda) Johnson of Boone, IA; Linda Ray of Waterloo, IA; Buck (Rhonda) Johnson of Boone, IA; Brenda (Bill) Davisson of Woodward, IA; Cindy (Herb) Bishop of Boone, IA; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Peggy will forever be remembered for her smile, humor, sassiness, and in general, for just being amazing!

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone, with Pastor Adam Gordon officiating. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2022, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home. Private family interment at Rose Hill Cemetery will take place at a later date.
