BOONE, Iowa—Boone Mayor John Slight swore in the newest member of the Boone Police Department Monday evening. Chief John Wiebold said the Chase Smith came through the process as the top candidate and was selected to fill a vacancy on the department. Smith, a native of Boone, will begin with the in house training conducted by the department. He will also be scheduled for 16-weeks at the Law Enforcement Academy.
