BOONE, Iowa—Marie Ellen Dorr, age 89, of Boone, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at Boone County Hospital.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 14, 2022 at Central Christian Church. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.
Born on August 3, 1933 in Guthrie Center, Marie was the daughter of Roy and Virginia (Shroyer) Carper. She graduated from Guthrie Center High School in 1951.
She was united in marriage to Melvin “Mel” Dorr on June 2, 1952 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Marie was a homemaker until her children were grown. She then worked in Food Service at Iowa State University, where she worked until her retirement in 1995.
Family was most important to Marie. She adored her children and grandchildren. Marie enjoyed cooking, camping, and going for motorcycle rides with Mel on their BMW motorcycle. She was very involved in Central Christian Church where she served as a Deaconess and on several committees.
Marie is survived by her children: Mark (Pat) Dorr of Ogden, Margaret (John) Dake of Wautoma, WI, Rose (Randy) Holbrook of Boone, and Scott (Julie) Dorr of Boone; grandchildren: Shannon (Donny) Hobbs, Miranda (Aaron) Winters, Eric (Staci) Dorr, Tyler Dorr, J.D. Dake, Dennis (Lisa) Dake, Chris Dake, Micky (Justin) Miller, Angela (Cody) King, Ashley (Jeremy) Leavitt; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mel in 2015; sisters, Dorothy (Dayton) Lehman and Mildred (Max) Knowlton; and brothers, Lester (Francis) Carper and Cecil Carper.
