BOONE, Iowa—Verle Lloyd Swanson, son of Lloyd and Nellie (Dahl) Swanson, was born on October 4, 1936 in Paton, Iowa. He passed away at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on December 16, 2022 at the age of 86 years.
Verle grew up in Boxholm, Iowa and graduated from Boxholm High School. On November 25, 1967, Verle was united in marriage to Mavis Carlson at the Covenant Church in Pilot Mound, Iowa. They were the proud parents of two children Gary and Karla.
Verle enjoyed bowling, watching sports, especially anything Iowa or Iowa State. After retirement he enjoyed daily walks, attending grandchildren’s activities. He especially enjoyed his family and church fellowship. He was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa.
Verle was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Darlene Ball; and his brother Rollin Swanson. He is survived by his wife Mavis Swanson of Boone, IA; his son Gary (Wendy) Swanson of Boone, IA; his daughter Karla (Jason) Becker of West Des Moines, IA; 6 grandchildren: Maddie (Logan) Gibbs, Allie and Paxton Swanson, Brianna (Connor Corbin), Emme, and Riley Becker; his brothers Dwain (Dorothy) Swanson of Ankeny, IA, Larry (Evie) Swanson of Ogden, IA, Bob (Jan) Swanson of Ankeny, IA, and Kenny (Betty Jo) Swanson of Boone, IA; his sister Vonnie (Lyle) Guhl of Plymouth, MN; Nieces; Nephews; other relatives; and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Augustana Lutheran Church, 309 South Greene Street, Boone, IA. The family will greet friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Augustana Lutheran Church, 309 South Greene Street, Boone. Burial will take place at a later date at Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, IA. Memorials are suggested to the family to be used at their discretion.
