BOONE, Iowa—The First Day Hike Challenge drew an estimated 125 to the Ledges State Park Sunday morning. Park Manager Andy Bartlett said this week that good weather usually draws a good turnout for the event that includes a guided 1.5 mile hike. This year, hikers gathered at the Oak Woods Shelter and Park Ranger Klint Peterson led hikers off to Canyon Road. Friends of the Ledges were on hand to welcome hikers and provide information about the Ledge’s Centennial in 2024. The Sunday turnout was about ten times bigger than the First Day Hike from 2022 when about a dozen or so hikers showed up to hike in 20 Below Zero Windchill.
