BOONE, Iowa—Charlene Alexander, 91, of Boone, Iowa, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, March 17, 2023. Charlene was born on November 25, 1931, in Spencer, Iowa, the daughter of Perry and Beatrice Wilcox. She was married to William Crooks for eight years until his death in 1969.
Charlene married Norman Alexander on June 6, 1970. She was the devoted mother of 7, grandmother of 22, and great-grandmother of too many to count. She loved to camp, never met an animal she didn’t want to take home and was honored to be a Gold Star Mother.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents Perry and Beatrice Wilcox, Roy and Mabel Alexander, husband William Crooks, sisters Gwen Capps and Barb Wilcox, brother Don Wilcox, sons Douglas and Mike Crooks, and daughter Tonya Alexander.
Survivors include husband Norman Alexander, son Larry (Sandy) Crooks and family, daughter Peggy (Bret) Wilson and family, son Bill (Shonda) Crooks, son Tim (Moira) Crooks and family, the children and family of Douglas and Michael Crooks, brother Duane Wilcox, several nieces and nephews, and many many loving family members.
Memorial services for Charlene will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church in Boone, with Pastor Adam Gordon officiating. Visitation with family present will be from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home.
