Sharon was born on March 22, 1943, to Allene and Warren Flora in Ames, Iowa. She grew up in Ames and attended Ames High School, graduating in 1961. She would later become a loving mother of three children – Jennifer, Cathy and Jim – all of whom filled her life with joy. In 1980, Sharon met Alan Barger and the two were married on February 23, 1985, in Ogden, Iowa in a wedding officiated by Alan’s father, Dewey Barger. They built a life together in Ogden, where they would live for many, many years. They loved to travel together, whether it be a short drive to visit family, a quick stop at the casino or a weekend road trip to take their grandsons to a baseball game in Kansas City.

Through the years, Sharon worked at Bourns, the Ogden Manor, the E-Free Home and Ogden Community Schools.  She was also a member of the Ogden Business Women and the Leopard Club. Sharon was a woman of faith and often read from her bible, and she was an active participant in the women’s bible study at Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

She cherished any day that included coffee, shopping and finding a good place to get lunch. She enjoyed all kinds of crafts, such as making bracelets and cross-stitching. She also liked to spend her time outdoors gardening, picking gooseberries or green apples, or gathering rhubarb for one of her pies. She adored Elvis, and loved listening to gospel music.

Her friends and family will miss her sharp wit, her sassy sense of humor and her ability to let you know how she felt about something, good or bad. She always wanted the very best for everyone she cared about, and found a way to help whenever there was a need.

She loved to relive funny memories, of which there were many in a life well-lived.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Alan Barger; daughter Jennifer Adams; daughter Cathy Wright and her husband, Dan Wright; son Jim Matthews; sister Donnale Steinkuller; niece Stacy Steinkuller; grandchildren Daniel “Lauw” Wright and wife Kelly Wright, Bryan Wright and wife Krystal Wright, Christina Wright and fiancé John Haberling, Nicole Peter and husband Justin Peter, Miranda Matthews, Michael Matthews, James Matthews; and greatgrandchildren Kaden Wright, Kylan Wherli, Bowen Wright, Izabella Matthews, Easton Wright, Skyler Peter, and Adalynn Peter.
