BOONE, Iowa—Gary D. Elliott, 78, passed away Monday, May 29, 2023, at the Boone County Hospital, with his loved ones by his side.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, in Boone. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, June 2, 2023, at Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel. Interment with military honors by the Boone Veterans Council will be at Boone Squire Cemetery.
Gary was born March 17, 1945, in Boone, the son of Fred DeWayne and Loretta (Harden) Elliott. He attended Boone schools and graduated from Boone High School in 1963. Gary was united in marriage to Karen K. Nicolle of Ames on June 12, 1965.
Gary served in the Army National Guard. He was employed with Fareway for 49 years, both in stores and the warehouse. Gary enjoyed feeding and watching the song birds in his yard. He also liked helping and attending his kids and grandkids sporting events, as well as watching them in their race cars. Lately, he enjoyed watching his grandson racing at the Boone track.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; two sisters-in-law; two cousins; aunts and uncles.
Gary is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Karen K. Elliott; daughter, Shellie (Brandon) Allen; son, Terry (Christy) Elliott; daughter, Belinda (Chad) Davis; grandchildren, Aaron, Ashton, and Ashley Elliott, Dylan, Noah, Nick, Faith and Ciera Allen, Jake and Emma Davis; sister, Karon (Denny) Rose; sister-in-law, Carolyn Dyke and cousins.
