Dena Bloodsworth

BOONE, Iowa—Dena Mae Bloodsworth, 91, of Boone, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at her home in Boone.

A celebration of her life will be held from 5:00 -7:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone. A private inurnment will be held at Boone Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Dena was born November 6, 1931, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Lillie (VanSkyke) Hendren. 

Dena was united in marriage to Thomas Bloodsworth on September 2, 1950, in Ottumwa. She was a homemaker for several years before starting her career at Fareway, where she was employed for 20 years.

Dena was a volunteer at the hospital for a number of years, and a member of ABWA, the Red Hat Society, Newcomers Club, YMCA, and Circle 2 at Central Christian Church.  She had many friends and several of them got together and walked in the McCose Park for over 20 plus years.  Dena enjoyed to read, especially the bible and devotions every day.  Spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her the most joy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas in 2008; son, Larry Dean Bloodsworth in 2001; two grandchildren, Jasper Bloodsworth and Julie Bloodsworth; one great-granddaughter, Nora Ihle; two brothers, Vern Hendren and Louis Hendren; four sisters, Fern Burnett, Dixie Pherigo, Hattie Lies and Sue Weatherald.

Dena is survived by her children, Christina (Richard) Nelson of Huxley, Roxanna (Randy) Raulston of Boone and Thomas Bloodsworth of Tucson, Arizona; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille (Bill) Marlow of Redfield, Sharon Lang of Malvern; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be directed to the family and mailed to Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, c/o Dena Bloodsworth Family, P.O. Box 15, Boone, IA 50036.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone.  Online condolences may be left to Dena’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
