Brett King Recognized as HIRTA’s Driver of the Year

Posted on 16 June 2023 by KWBG

URBANDALE, Iowa—Brett King, HIRTA driver in multiple areas, was recognized during the 2023 Iowa Public Transit Association (IPTA) Annual Meeting and Training Conference as HIRTA’s Driver of the Year.

To be considered for driver of the year, drivers must work at least 780 hours, have no fault accidents or moving violations, work at least 95% of all scheduled work, and have no documented incidents or complaints.

Brett played a key role in getting our Norwalk service up and running. From attending Coffee & Chat at the Norwalk Easter Public Library to filming a How2Ride video with Scribbles the Mascot to starting the mobile library & delivering books to those in need, Brett has gone the extra mile in helping HIRTA. He has filled in with various HIRTA projects such as travel training sessions, working with APEX (Aspiring Professional Experience) students to bring real-world experience to high school students, and more.

Julia Castillo, HIRTA’s Executive Director, said, “Brett is the ultimate team player. He takes pride in the service he provides to his communities. He routinely steps up on his days off, when we have been short staffed to work in several different counties. He has a great reputation with the customers he serves as well as his peers. Brett’s bus is always decorated for the season – just another example of how he goes above and beyond to make HIRTA riders feel at home.”

HIRTA is fortunate to have Brett as part of the team! We applaud Brett, all of our drivers and office staff for the hard work they’ve done this past year. If you’d like to send the staff and drivers a positive note, you can Thank a HIRTA Hero by going to www.RideHIRTA.com/HIRTAHeroes.
