BOONE, Iowa—Funeral arrangements are planned for Velma Davis, 103, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 18, 2023 at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 11, 2023, at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. 

Velma was born at home on September 27, 1919, which is now the Honey Creek Golf Course in Boone, the daughter of Clyde and Bessie (Frill) Boyd.  She attended school in Boone and graduated from Boon High School in 1938.

Velma was united in marriage to Ross Davis on December 24, 1939, at the Central Christian Church in Boone. They made their home Southwest of Ogden for 32 years, before moving to Boone in 1979. Velma and Ross enjoyed square dancing, traveling, and mixed bowling.

Velma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Boone and the Neighborhood Women’s Club.  She loved writing poems, crossword puzzles, playing the accordion and keyboard.  Velma was an amazing bakery and was known for her peanut butter cake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 68 years, Ross in 2008; son, Allen in 2022; granddaughter, Jill Davis in 2018; and a sister, Rowena Juhl in 2000.

Velma is survived by a grandson, Steve (Sherry) Davis of Des Moines and a nephew, Robert Juhl.
