BEAVER, Iowa—Ruth A. Evans, 85, of Beaver, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Carson ~ Stapp Funeral Home in Ogden. Pastor Evelyn Lewiston will officiate. Burial will be at the Beaver Cemetery, Beaver Iowa. Ruth Ann Smalley was born on August 6, 1937, in Ogden, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Eva (Harris) Smalley. She attended Beaver Schools and East Greene, graduating with the class of 1955. She went on to receive an Associate’s Degree from DMACC.
Ruth was united in marriage to Paul Dean Evans on September 24, 1955, at the Church of the Brethren in Beaver. To this union two children were born: Paula and Dennis. The couple lived south of Beaver until moving into town in 1967. Ruth was a homemaker until 1961. She worked at Bourns Inc. as an assembler and later as a supervisor until its closing. She then worked as the Beaver postmaster until starting as the payroll clerk at Osmundson Manufacturing until retiring.
Ruth was a member of the Beaver Church of the Brethren where her activities included Sunday school teacher, youth group leader, and playing piano. She and Paul enjoyed camping, and Bluegrass music. She also loved quilting, gardening, and most of all adventures with her grandchildren and family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Paul on May 23, 2006, three sisters, Donna Mosher, Evelyn Lansing, and Twilia Mackowiak, and her brother, Russell Dale Smalley Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Paula Evans of Beaver, IA; son, Dennis (Marlene Thompson) Evans of Humboldt, IA; four grandchildren, Lindsey (Heath) Curless, Travis Evans, Jennifer (Dillon Heesch) Evans, and Sarah (Zack) Miller; three great-grandchildren, Kipton, Kennedy, and Kerrigan Curless; one brother, Paul LeRoy (Carlene) Smalley of Nebraska City, NE; as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
