BOONE, Iowa—Louis Ronald Greco, 64, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa, on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on January 15, 1959, the son of Dr. Louis and Helen Greco. He was a graduate of Boone High School in 1977 and went on to marry his high school sweetheart, Vicki (Prokop) Greco, at Sacred Heart Church on June 9, 1979.
His career started in 1976 at the Boone County Hospital as an Orderly. In 1990 he became the director of the Ambulance Service. After 37 years of service, he retired in December 2013 at 54 years of age.
After retirement, he and Vicki became “cruisers” which he thoroughly loved and recruited many to join. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends a lot, but his number one passion was family. He encouraged many family gatherings on his patio, grilling, and an endless supply of food. Time spent with family and friends was all he needed. Louie always put others first before himself. This was instilled in his children and will forever be passed on.
The love for his grandchildren gave him tremendous joy. He was always supplying them with candy, treats, and toys. Louie was always there for everyone, no matter the situation. No one was ever a stranger to him.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen, and father, Dr. Louis Greco; sister-in-law, Rebecca Greco, and father-in-law, Donald Prokop.
Survivors include the love of his life, wife Vicki; daughter, Carrie (Brad) Bristle of Ogden, IA; son, Ryan (Christine) Greco of Polk City, IA; four grandchildren: Macy and Hallie Bristle, Dillon and Tinley Greco; four siblings: Raymond Greco of Minnesota, Ann Davidson of Colorado, Robert (Terrie) Greco of Boone, and David Greco of Ames, along with several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
The family of Louis Greco would like to thank Dr. Merchant, plus all the other medical professionals who helped Lou during his journey.
Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be held Monday, July 31, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday at Linwood Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family to use at their discretion.
