Thomas Hamil

KWBG 08/18/23

BOONE, Iowa—Thomas Michael Hamil, 72, Boone, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023. He was born on March 12, 1951, in Boone, Iowa, the Son of William and Mary (Frederick) Hamil. On June 23, 1972, he married Francine Gibson at the Evangelical Free Church in Boone, Iowa. He was a Boone High School Graduate and went on to work at Caffrey Wholesale Company for over 40 years.

Tom was an avid Ducks Unlimited member and hunter. If you found him hunting, he wouldn’t be alone. His best friend of over 50 years, Robert Marten, would be with him. He was a member of many bowling leagues and often entered and won bowling tournaments. Tom was a champion bowler, just like his father, who was his main partner. He loved golfing with his dad, wife, and nephew, Brian Toft. You could find the three guys out golfing in the morning and Mike back at night with his wife. He enjoyed coaching little league softball. He loved fishing with his girls, and in recent years he enjoyed fishing with his grandson (Keen).

Tom loved to travel and luckily married a woman willing to go anywhere with him. Having kids didn’t stop them. They all have fond memories of traveling every summer. Tom and Francine kept up their traveling even when their kids were all grown and out of the house. They often traveled with friends and family to see landmarks across the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and sister, Karen.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 51 years, Francine Gibson Hamil; four daughters: Jennifer Ann Hamil, Jessica Michelle (Alex) Beas, Julianne Lynn (Josh) Faas, and Jeannette Marie (John) Flynn; 12 grandchildren: Cassandra, Harley, Kaleb, Tyson, Kaleb, Khloe, Kamryn, Kennedi, Addison, Keen, Karolyne and Mary Evelyn; four great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Joseph, Sarah, and Meggie; siblings: Carol Toft, Jerry Hamil, and Jim Hamil, and aunt, Bonnie Williams.

Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. A private family service will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.

The Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street, Boone, Iowa is assisting the family with the arrangements.
