Posted on 23 August 2023 by KWBG

BOONE, Iowa—Boone County Sheriff Andy Godzicki has released some of the details of Monday afternoon’s motorcycle accident that occurred east of Boone on U.S. Highway 30 near “T” Avenue. The accident did lead to traffic being diverted for a brief time so Life Flight could land on the highway. Late Wednesday, Godzicki released this information:

On 8/21/2023 at about 1721 hours Boone County Dispatch received a 911 call about a motorcycle and trailer that went into the center median on Hwy 30 east of T Ave. The driver of the motorcycle was injured. Boone County Sheriffs Office, Boone Police Department, Boone County Hospital, Boone Fire, Iowa DOT, and Life Flight all responded to the scene.

The driver, Thomas Meinecke of Panora, IA was originally westbound on Hwy 30 and traveling through the1900 block of Hwy 30 known as the Erickson Curves. He lost control of his motorcycle that was pulling a small cargo trailer and wound up in the center median. Meinecke said he hit a bump in the road and that was what caused him to crash.

Life Flight responded to the scene quickly as they were already at the Ames Airport. Eastbound Hwy 30 had to be closed for about 15 minutes due to the helicopter needing to land at the scene. Meinecke was airlifted from the scene with unknown injuries.

Condon’s Towing of Boone also responded to the scene to handle the tow.

There has been no update on Meinecke’s condition at this time.
