Shirley Dahl

KWBG 09/05/23

BOONE, Iowa—Shirley V. Dahl, age 90, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at her home on Friday, September 1, 2023. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Fred and Edna Vitt. She graduated from Boone High School in 1950 and Rosary College in Chicago in 1954. She moved back to Iowa in 1955, where she worked briefly in Cedar Rapids before returning to Boone to work in an administrative position at Fareway Store’s corporate office alongside her father.

In 1957, she married Bob (Robert) Dahl at Sacred Heart Church in Boone. She was a long-time member of Sacred Heart, as well as the Boone Lowell Club, and was involved in a variety of volunteer community organizations throughout her life. She was an excellent card player, hosting many bridge clubs at her home (and usually winning). In her later years, she took up Mahjong with a group of friends. She had a sharp wit and was voted class clown, which she exhibited frequently by dressing up in goofy clothes or surprisingly drinking a shot of Wild Turkey after dinner. She had a strong faith in God and will forever be at his feet. Her favorite things were her family and friends and spending time at her lake home. Her list of friends and neighbors was long, and she was always proud to have lived her life in Boone.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents, Fred and Edna; two brothers, Frederick and James; brother and sister-in-law, Bud (Eldon) and Jane; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Her loving family includes her sister-in-law, Betty; daughters Lisa and husband, Lee; Dalene (DeeDee) and husband, Dennis; son Vincent and wife, Mandy; daughter Roberta and husband, William; 13 grandchildren: Ericca, Charlotte, Amanda, Anthony, Cassie, Nikkie, Sara, Dana, Alex, Austin, Sydney, Aaron, Lilian; 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their children.

A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Tim Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery following the Funeral Mass. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. A Rosary Prayer Service will be prior to the visitation at 4:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart School Endowment Fund or Catholic Charities. Online condolences can be left at www.schroederfuneral.com
