BOONE, Iowa—Charles “Chuck” Erickson, 83, of Boone, Iowa, passed away at his home in Boone on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. He was born on March 7, 1940, in Ogden, Iowa, the son of Donald and Evanelle (Van Pelt) Erickson. He was a 1958 graduate of United Community High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Army for two years, one of which was in Korea. He received an honorable discharge in January of 1961. In 1962, Chuck began farming and continued farming until his retirement in 2007.
On February 8, 1964, he married Caryl Peterson at the First United Methodist Church in Boone, Iowa.
Chuck and Caryl were blessed with two children, Jolene and Scott. He enjoyed camping, boating, hiking,
motorcycle trips, snowmobiling, and watching good Western movies. Chuck and Caryl spent 20 years
wintering in Arizona. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending family gatherings.
Chuck was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Boone and received his 50-year
membership pin a few years ago. He was also an active member of the Farm Bureau, Cattlemen’s
Association, and the Boone County Extension Council. He also loved being a Trustee for Rose Hill
Cemetery east of Luther.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Evanelle Erickson; in-laws, Gay and Edwin Peterson;
sister, Marjorie Shreve; brother, Darrell Erickson; two nieces and three nephews.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 59 years, Caryl Erickson of Boone, IA; daughter, Jolene (Mike) Butler of
Mason City, IA; son, Scott (Taunja) Erickson of Boone, IA; four grandsons: Ben Butler, Bryce Butler, Sam
Butler, and Dane Erickson; three step-grandchildren: Morgan McMichael, Kody Hoskins, and Kacie
Hoskins; sister, Sharon (John) Pohl of Boone, IA; brother, Darwin (Norma) Erickson of Boone, IA; sister-inlaw, Marilyn Erickson of Boone, IA; brother-in-law, Bill Shreve of Luther, IA; and several nieces, nephews,
and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the First United
Methodist Church in Boone, with Pastor Adam Gordon officiating. Visitation with the family present to
greet friends will be at the church prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A private family
graveside service will be at Rose Hill Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Boone First United Methodist Church, 703 Arden Street, Boone, Iowa 50036.
