Ronald Francis Meyer was born in Carrollton, Illinois on May 13, 1946, the son of Francis and Lela (Swann) Meyer. Ron grew up helping his family take care of their farm. He graduated from Routt Catholic High School in Jacksonville, IL, followed by graduation from Quincy College in Quincy, Illinois, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business.
On January 11, 1969, Ron married Doris Dvorsky at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. He started his career at JC Penney as the youngest store manager in the chain. Following this, his love of farming led him to selling farm equipment throughout the midwest. One of Ron’s favorite things was driving around and talking to various farmers. Through the years, he worked for all the major implements-Allis-Chalmers, Case IH, New Holland, and John Deere, eventually retiring from the Central Iowa Farm Store in 2018. Ron’s most important priority was his family. He loved vacationing with his family, watching birds, and being outdoors. Ron was known for always helping his neighbors and had a servant heart. He was active in the church community by serving as communion minister, parish council, and a Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus. Ron and Doris were independent consultants for the Meleluca Wellness Company. After retirement, he enjoyed fellowship with his coffee group, hiking around Ada Hayden, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Ron is survived by three daughters, Jean (Trevor) Anderson of Allen, Texas, Kimberly (Scott) Sitzman of Ames, and Mary (Doug) Lestina of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Kayleigh and Olivia Anderson, Danielle (Orion) Boylston and Ashley Sitzman, and Brendan and Chase Lestina; brother Jim (Gretchen) Meyer of Blooming, Il; sister, Margie Meyer of Carrollton, Il; and numerous nieces and nephews.
