Former Jaguars Employee Accused Of Stealing Millions

(Jacksonville, FL) — A former Jacksonville Jaguars employee is accused of stealing more than 22-million dollars from the team. According to documents filed this week in U.S. District Court, Amit Patel exploited the organization’s virtual credit card program from 2019 to 2023. Among the items Patel purchased were two vehicles, a condominium and a designer watch worth over 95-thousand dollars. Patel starting working for the Jaguars in 2018 and was fired in February of 2023. His most recent title was manager, financial planning and analysis and he oversaw the franchise’s VCC program.

Panthers’ Hurst Says Post-Traumatic Amnesia Won’t End Career

(Charlotte, NC) — The Panthers starting tight end says a recent head injury will not end his playing career. Hayden Hurst does not believe that the post-traumatic amnesia that he was diagnosed with after suffering a concussion in early November will be career-ending. The 30-year-old was injured on a hit that he took against the Chicago Bears in Week 10. Hurst signed a three-year deal with Carolina this past offseason after one year with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has 18 catches for 184 yards and one touchdown in nine games this season.

Kicker Robbie Gould Announces Retirement

(Undated) — One of the top kickers in NFL history is hanging up his cleats. Robbie Gould announced his retirement from the NFL in a piece on the The Players’ Tribune on Thursday. Gould played 18 seasons in the NFL and ranks 10th all-time in points scored and eighth in field goals made. The 41-year-old finished his career with the San Francisco 49ers after a long stint with the Chicago Bears and one season with the New York Giants. Gould converted on 86.5-percent of his 517 career field goal attempts.

Lakers, Pacers Advance To NBA In-Season Tournament Championship

(Undated) — The stage is set for the NBA In-Season Tournament championship game in Las Vegas. The Los Angeles Lakers will battle the Indiana Pacers for the first-ever NBA Cup at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. LA, which earned the top seed in the West, blew out the third-seeded New Orleans Pelicans 133-89 in the Semifinal Round to advance. LeBron James led all scorers with 30 points, while Anthony Davis sunk 16 and collected a game-high 15 rebounds. In the East, the Number-2 Pacers upset the top-ranked Milwaukee Bucks 128-119. Tyrese Haliburton led Indiana with 27 points and dished-out a game-high 15 assists.

(New York, NY) — The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner will be announced this weekend in the Big Apple. LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels, Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., Oregon quarterback Bo Nix and Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. will gather in New York City on Saturday to see who will become the winner of the 89th annual Heisman Memorial Trophy. This is the fifth straight year that there will be four finalists for the most coveted individual trophy in college sports. Daniels is currently seen as the favorite after totaling 50 touchdowns and leading the nation in total offense. If he were to win, Daniels would become LSU’s third-ever Heisman Trophy winner.

Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Junior Undecided On Entering NFL Draft

(Columbus, OH) — The top wide receiver prospect in the 2024 NFL draft is considering a return to college next season. Marvin Harrison Jr. told the media on Thursday that he’s “still undecided” on declaring for April’s draft. The Ohio State pass catcher still wants to beat Michigan and win a Big Ten championship. The Heisman Trophy finalist became the first Buckeyes receiver to record consecutive one-thousand-yard seasons after racking up 1,211 yards this year. Harrison Jr. lit up defenses for 1,263 receiving yards in 2022.

Duke Hires Penn State’s Manny Diaz For HC Opening

(Durham, NC) — The Blue Devils are hiring their new head football coach. Duke has tabbed Penn State defensive coordinator Manny Diaz to fill its head coaching vacancy. A deal between both sides was finalized on Thursday and an introductory press conference has been scheduled for Saturday. Diaz led the number-one ranked defense in the country this past season, as the Nittany Lions held their opponents to 223.2 yards per game. He was the head coach at ACC rival Miami from 2019-to-2021, where he led the Hurricanes to a 21-and-15 record.

Yankees Eye Pitching Help After Juan Soto Deal

(Bronx, NY) — The New York Yankees are far from done when it comes to improving the ballclub. General Manager Brian Cashman told the media he wants to make New York “the mecca of baseball” following the blockbuster deal to bring in slugger Juan Soto from the San Diego Padres. Cashman said the next step for the organization is to add top-end pitching. The Bronx Bombers added Soto in exchange for several pitchers including Michael King and Drew Thorpe. Cashman said the Yanks hope to extend the three-time All-Star.

Disney And Brittney Griner Strike Partnership To Tell Her Story

(Undated) — Disney and Brittney Griner are partnering to tell her story. Griner will give Disney exclusive rights to share her story through a documentary from ESPN Films, a scripted series through ABC Signature, and an exclusive interview with ABC News anchor Robin Roberts. Griner said in a statement that the last two years have been “the most harrowing, transformative and illuminating period” of her life. She was arrested in February 2022 at a Moscow airport for cannabis possession, which led to her being held for months in prison.
