BOONE, Iowa—Boone School Board member Dr. Brian Mehlhaus officially announced his intent to resign from the Boone School Board effective following the January 16th School Board meeting. In a prepared statement at the end of Monday night’s regular meeting, Mehlhaus said that when he was first elected, he had been involved with the citizens committee working on planning for the district’s facility needs. Now, after ten and a half years on the board, the last of the facilities have been upgraded with the Ledges Elementary and the Crossroads Learning Hub. He noted the improvements also made in the 1986 portion of the high school with recent improvements in the auditorium, the gymnasium and the HVAC project.
He also noted advancements in educational opportunities with the EDGE program and the implementation of Portrait of a Scholar.
Mehlhaus retired earlier from his Medical Practice at the Boone County Hospital. He has remained on the Boone County Board of Health.
Superintendent Julie Trepa says the board will consider it’s options to filling the position. In the past they’ve used an application process to consider appointing someone to fill the term. Patrons could seek a special election.
