BOONE, Iowa—Plans are being developed for a milestone for the Ledges State Park. Thursday night, staff members and representatives of the “Friends of the Ledges” took time to pass along information about the celebration of the dedication of the park in November 1924.
Andy Bartlett, Manager at the Ledges State Park presented information on the history of the park and how state parks were created in Iowa. Park Ranger, Klint Peterson provided information on changes coming in 2024 like all online reservations beginning in March of 2024, and plans for a new shower building in the campground and work to restore the Oak Woods Shelter which has been closed because of structural concerns. By the way, a meeting for a restoration project will be held in early 2024.
Friends of the Ledges have been working to put together celebration plans in 2024. They will still need to be review by the state. A large celebration is expected on September 28, 2024 National Public Lands Day. A November 12th celebration of the dedication is also being planned.
