Eldora Heineman

OGDEN, Iowa—Eldora R. Heineman, 97, of Ogden, Iowa, passed away early Sunday morning, December 31, 2023, at her residence at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone.

A Celebration of Life Service for Eldora will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden. Inurnment will follow at Maas Cemetery, rural Ogden. Eldora Rose Stumpenhorst was born on April 16, 1926, in Blue Hill, Nebraska, the daughter of Edward and Rosa (Siebrass) Stumpenhorst. She was confirmed in 1939, and graduated as salutatorian with the Blue Hill High School class of 1943. She furthered her education at Kearney State Teacher’s College, receiving her normal training teaching certificate, allowing her to teach country school. She taught in Nebraska and Iowa a total of 5 years prior to her marriage.

On June 10, 1948, Eldora was united in marriage to John Heineman Jr. at the old Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden. To this union three children were born: Brian, Craig, and Paul. Eldora and John farmed in the Ogden area for many years and Eldora also worked at the ASCS office.

Eldora was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden serving on multiple committees. She was an excellent cook – making hundreds of birthday and wedding cakes, enjoyed playing bridge with friends, and loved time spent with family including many family vacations at Twin Lakes.

She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 siblings, Charles Stumpenhorst, Marvin Stumpenhorst, and Vera Youngren, as well as numerous aunts and uncles.

Survivors include her husband of 75 years, John Heineman Jr. of Ogden, IA; three sons, Dr. Brian (Nancy) Heineman of Grinnell, IA, Craig (Martha) Heineman of Ogden, IA, and Paul (Mari Lynn) Heineman also of Ogden, IA; nine grandchildren, Dr. Anna Heineman & (Dr. Gary Heil), Dr. Kate Heineman & (Lee Henderson), Dr. John Heineman & (Lauren Seemann), Dr. Thomas Heineman & (Adelaide Subtil), Brett & (Sarah) Heineman, Laura & (Reid) Sorensen, Andrew & (Katy) Heineman, Marcus & (Leslie) Heineman, and Grant (Emily) Heineman; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, and their families.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to either: Zion Lutheran Church or the Elm Street Preschool.
